Organic agriculture stakeholders are faced with the same practical problems and obstacles when it comes to organic agriculture. Therefore, organic farmers, agricultural advisors and researchers need context-related information to support their long-term and short-term planning. They need to be able to acquire this knowledge without access restrictions to scientific publications. The problem is that all this information is currently dispersed at different online and off-line locations/media, making access to the already acquired knowledge very difficult. To this end, the project proposes the implementation of web-based application that will address this problem and it will facilitate the relevant stakeholders (i.e. organic farmers, advisors and researchers) to easily find publications
The main result of the project is the Organic-AgriWare web-based application, which provides context-aware access to Organic Eprints publications (provided by ICROFS) for the end-users (namely organic farmers, agricultural advisors and researchers). It is worth mentioning that the Organic-AgriWare web-based application has been developed based on FIWARE technologies.
The Organic-AgriWare application can be used by farmers and advisors when they are searching for scientific publications related to organic agriculture for their operations. The application operates under a freemium revenue model. In respect to this model, its core features are offered for free to the end-users, whereas additional features are offered on top of them for a price. More specifically, the basic feature is the ability to search and retrieve scientific publications on organic agriculture. Therefore, end-users are provided with advanced search tools in order to access relevant content from research papers hosted in Organic Eprints provided by ICROFS. On the other hand, the premium version offers to organic farmers, researchers and agricultural advisors personalized publications
