Sugar hit The National Centre for Engineering in Agriculture (NCEA), University of Southern Queensland, Australia has developed on-harvester yield monitoring sensors, which in conjunction with soil mapping and satellite imagery, can be used to identify low-yielding areas in canefields. As part of a seven-year collaborative project with Sugar Research Australia (SRA) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the hardware, software and systems NCEA have come up with have the potential to improve Australia's average sugarcane yields as the industry seeks efficiencies in established areas, and prepares to expand in Western Australia's Ord region and North Queensland's dry tropics.
