Micol Rossini, PhD E-mail: micol.rossini@unimib.it; date of birth: 10th December, 1978 M. Rossini received the degree in Environmental Sciences at University of Milano-Bicocca (UNIMIB) in 2003 with final mark 110/110 cum laude. In 2006 she received her PhD in Environmental Sciences at UNIMIB with thesis on Hyperspectral remote sensing. Presentation of the research 2003 (Consorzio Milano Ricerche research fellowship): she participates to the DLR (German Aerospace Centre) funded DARFEM experiment (DAIS and ROSIS for Forest Ecosystem Monitoring) aimed to investigate the capability of hyperspectral-directional airborne remote data to retrieve canopy parameters. 2004-2006 (PhD student at the Remote Sensing Laboratory – UNIMIB): she works on applications of remote sensing for vegetation stress monitoring, developing methods for assessing forest condition based on airborne remote observations and investigating optical signals of the oxidative stress linked to ozone exposure with innovative remote sensing techniques (heat and fluorescence). 2007- 2012 (post-doctoral research fellow at DISAT - UNIMIB): she works on the investigation of vegetation energy dissipation pathways (heat and fluorescence) and their passive retrieval from remote observation. She is involved in international campaigns and research projects on the subject. She is also involved in the SpecNet Europe working group, an international initiative focused on linking remote sensing data to carbon fluxes at eddy covariance field sites. Her expertise in this field is recognised through her nomination to the management committee of the COST Action ES0903 “Spectral sampling tools for vegetation biophysical parameters and flux measurements in Europe”. She works in the EDOCROS (Early Detection Of CROp Stress) EUFAR project entitled “Early detection of crop water and nutritional stress by remotely sensed indicators” and the Axìa (CRUI-Nestlé project for research and development) aimed at exploring the potential of hyperspectral remote observation and thermal imaging for the early detection and mapping of crop water and nutritional stress for a sustainable use of resources. October 2012-present (temporary researcher (art. 24 c.3-a L. 240/10) at DISAT – UNIMIB): she works on the definition of common protocol and state-of-the-art instruments to be used for estimation of fluorescence in the context of calibration/validation activities. - Passive retrieval of sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence from field and airborne high resolution data. - Investigation of the relation between CO2 uptake from terrestrial ecosystems (as measured by eddy covariance technique) and high spectral resolution remote measurements. - Vice-chair of the ESSEM COST Action ES1309 “Innovative optical Tools for proximal sensing of ecophysiological processes (OPTIMISE)”. - Organization of remote sensing field measurement campaigns. During her research activities she acquired several skills useful for the proposed project: proximal remote sensing with image sensor (webcam) and high resolution field spectroradiometers for the passive estimation of sun induce fluorescence; hyperspectral RS techniques (atmospheric and geometric correction); design and development of remote sensing instruments for the collection of continuous spectral measurements; measurement of spectral properties in the lab with Integrating Sphere and in the field; modulated fluorometry for the active measurement of fluorescence; chemical extraction of leaf photosynthetic pigments; indirect measurement of biophysical and biochemical vegetation parameters with optical systems. She published 36 articles in peer-reviewed international journals, 2 articles in peer-reviewed national journals, 2 chapters in peer-reviewed books and various conference proceedings.
