Development of automatic methods for recording of coping capacities and welfare. Present focus is on time budgets and lameness in dairy cows in relation to level of production and housing conditions. Studies of behaviour in relation to different aspects of housing systems for dairy cattle. Furthermore, emphasis is on the development and application of methods for quantification of behavioural needs and research into how various social and physical factors affect the behaviour of farm animals. Experience with research conducted on both research facilities and on commercial farms. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION Papers in peer reviewed journals together with scientists from Canada, Finland, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, Scotland, The Nederland and USA. Participated in three EU-project the last 10 years (Automatic milking, Welfare Quality and Optiscore). Personal invitation and accepted after review procedure as member of a working group under EFSA (2007-2009). Longer visits during the last 5 years: Agriculture Canada, Agassiz, Canada (3 weeks 2007), IceRobotics, Scotland (2 month 2007, 2 month 2010). Supervisor and co-supervisor for phd-students from Finland, Sweden and Scotland.
