Manuela obtained a master degree in chemistry and horticulture (1996, Technical University Berlin), a PhD in fruit physiology (1999, Technical University Berlin), and a habilitation in applied plant physiology (2004, Humboldt University Berlin). Postdoc positions were at Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering Bornim (2000-2002, ATB), Citrus Research and Education Centre (2001), and INRA-Versailles (2003). At present, she is professor at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin (since 2009), while at ATB (since 2004) she is working as a group leader targeting questions of precision fruticulture. Areas of research are (i) physical properties of fresh fruit, (ii) in situ measurements in orchards by means of automated sensors, and (iii) precision fruticulture (flower thinning, harvest management, and irrigation in woody plants). Considering technology transfer, Manuela is manager of the company CP active in ICT solutions in the agricultural industry. She is a Board Member of the journals "Food and Bioprocess Technology" and "Biosystems Engineering", and Chair of the ISHS Commission on Irrigation and Water Relations (CMIR).
