Head of Remote Sensing Centre – IGiK, She received PhD degree from the Australian National University in Canberra. She was awarded the Fulbright grant in USDA in 1995. Her main research interests are related to the use of information derived from optical and microwave sensors for water and energy balance for the areas of agriculture and wetlands. She is developing models for crop yield forecasting, crop growth assessment, environmental monitoring, drought detection and monitoring, detection of water deficit and its impact on yield reduction, natural hazards and wetlands management. She is the leader from IGIK of the research projects carried out within EU Framework Programmes (FP6 INTAS PACINE FP6 Geoland, FP7 Geoland2, FP7 CEUBIOM, FP7 GIONET), Manager of Maria Sklodowska-Curie Joint Fund II (Cooperation with NOAA-NESDIS) and PI of projects in cooperation with ESA. She is the leader of the projects founded by ESA: PECS Carbon, ASAP, SERENE, POLWET and ESA Express Procurement Sentinel-1 Soil Moistre Product Validation. She is the principal investigator of Polish-Norwegian Research Programme FINEGRASS, - ESA LPVP project “Land Products Validation and Characterisation in support to Proba-V, S-2 and S-3 missions”, - Crop condition assessment in Poland on the basis of information derived from satellite images – cooperation with the Central Statistical Office (1997 – 2019); ESA Project Service 4 Drought Monitoring – 2017-2019. Professor Katarzyna Dabrowska - Zielinska is the Head of the Group for Earth Observation Copernicus Programme in the Polish Committee of Space and Satellite Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She plays a representative role on behalf of the Committee for Copernicus User Forums in Brussels. She is a member of Polish National Committee – International Geosphere and Biosphere Programme International Council of Science (ICSU), Scientific Board of the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, Committee on Astronautics and Space Exploration, Space and Natural Disasters Reduction Committee, European Remote Sensing Laboratories and National Expert of Foresight Programme. Prof. Dabrowska-Zielinska is also a National Coordinator of ERASMUS Mundus MSc Course in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM), she is the reviewer and supervisor of Polish and foreign PhD thesis.
