What is TSSG?
TSSG is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for ICT research and innovation. We carry out a wide spectrum of industry-informed research in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), particularly technologies enabling communications and information services.
Our four key prioritised technical Research areas include Mobile Platforms and Services, Security Privacy and Identity, Data Analytics and Social computing, Adaptive Networks and services. We create economic impact by translating our knowledge base and innovation into leading edge products and services by continuing our engagement with Industry in collaborative R&D, knowledge generation and transfer.
Over the past five years, TSSG has delivered innovative solutions to over 110 Irish companies, and has created 16 spin out companies in the South East including the award winning FeedHenry, a groundbreaking mobile cloud platform company, and ZolkC, a leading provider of mobile technology for international visitor attractions and KodaCall a new ‘Click to Call’ Technology.
How many TSSG staff members?
There are over 100 TSSG staff members, made up of 6 Faculty members, 17 PhDs, 7 Post Docs, with the remaining members consisting of leading telecommunications and software researchers, experts, and engineers along with operational and administrative support staff.
What other Strategic Groups are TSSG involved with?
TSSG are also actively engaged in steering the Future Internet agenda in Europe. We are a partner and member of many European technology platforms and strategic groups of Industry collaborators: including the Future Internet Assembly (FIA) ; ETSI, the Industry Specification Group on Identity and Access Management; TiDl, Trust in the Digital Life initiative; and EP3R, European Public-Private Partnership for Resilience. TSSG is the only Irish representative holding a leading position on the steering boards of the Net!Works and NEM European Technology Platforms. Participating at a leadership level in initiatives such as these is a critical success factor and once again confirms TSSG’s position as one of the leading ICT research organisations nationally and internationally. In addition we host regular events, seminars and workshops for wider industry and meet a large number of companies every year.

TSSG has engaged with over 425 partners across 35 countries worldwide, on collaborative research projects. Our partners include Nokia, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent – as well as Tier 1 operators including Telefónica/O2, T-Mobile, T-Systems (a division of Deutsche Telekom), Telecom Italia, Vodafone, Telenor Group and Portugal Telecom and many more.
