Short name:
AGRIFARM
Description:

Agrifarm specializes in development and sales of environmental friendly housing systems for cows and pigs, both in Denmark and abroad. The company’s focal point is the three housing systems for milk production, piglet production, and production of slaughter pigs, respectively. The housings contribute to reducing the environmental impact with up to 75 %, and the technologies improve the housing climate along with decreasing the energy consumption significantly – up to 60 % in the slaughter pig housing.

Hans Jørgen Pedersen, managing director and partner, and Erling Friis Pedersen, development director and partner, acquired in the fall 2013 the activities in MT Højgaard’s agri-division. Both have worked with the development of the concept since 2007 and are now carrying on MT Højgaard’s housing system plus a series of the company’s award-winning environmental technologies under the name Agrifarm.

The company has developed various technologies that are applicable across the three housing systems, among other; the ventilation principle SmartVent® - a controlled interaction between regulated natural ventilation and a mechanical floor exhaust. Via air ducts beneath the stalls, an air stream is created across the slurry channel. The air stream retains ammonia fumes and smells, but it also has potential to retain climate gasses such as CO2, methane and laughing gas. The result is that both animals and the housing environment are significantly less burdened than under normal circumstances.

In 2009 and 2012 several of the company’s environmental technologies won the Agromek-award in separate categories. The company has also been presented with EU’s Environment Award in 2011-2012.
