Agroväst has served as a platform in western Sweden for development programs in agriculture
and food sector since 1992. We now grow on national and international arenas.
Our unique strength lies in the interdisciplinary nature, opportunities to link researchers
and practitioners from many different areas together in bureaucratic free forms. We have,
thanks to well-developed forms of collaboration among different stakeholders the possibility
to engage in extensive research and development with a large number of subjects.
R & D programs are led by management groups with national competence. Agroväst promotes
entrepreneurship and enterprises in the green sector.
Our main programs:
Sustainable Agriculture Sweden/EU
We have just created a national platform, Sustainable Agriculture, which covers all agricultural production
(crop production, livestock production and bioenergy). The program’s aim is to influence future calls within
Horizon 2020 which will contain more appropriate subjects for Swedish actors in the agricultural area.
Soil conservation
Future climate places greater demands on soil functions. All heavy machinery increases soil compaction.
Organic matter is reduced in many soils. Yields have stagnated in recent decades. Soil conservation is quite
a new program within Agroväst. The program is intended for all who are interested in developing soil issues.
Sustainable Farming through Precision Agriculture
The main objective of this pilot project is to identify, define and develop a number of activities in which
different disciplines work together and to conduct a feasibility study about the effects of a project in the
ÖKS-region on precision agriculture. Activities can be to test technical innovations as well as to develop new
methods for education, information and demonstration. Videncentret for Landbruk DK and Bioforsk NO are
our partners.
Precision Farming Sweden (POS)
POS is a network and a collaborative platform in precision farming for interested in organizations, businesses,
schools and universities. POS works with research, technology and education, particularly farmers,
advisers and students. The goal of business is to use new technologies in crop production which will
contribute to a more sustainable agriculture. Through various sensors, GPS positioning, etc. better
utilization of inputs, better and more consistent quality thus leading to a better economy and a smaller
environmental impact.
Dairy production
Our dairy program is conducted in close cooperation with SLU Skara with project activities at various
locations in the county of Västra Götaland. Overall goal for the dairy program is to illustrate that feed
quality is important for the production of quality food products from a dairy that is economically and
environmentally sustainable. Herd management is also considered. Efforts to expand knowledge and to
develop production in this direction is multidisciplinary with expertise in feed production, evaluation,
nutrition and animal health.
Beef and lamb production
The goal of this program is to improve the profitability of Swedish beef and lamb production. This is done
by investing in various ongoing research projects, often as partial funding of larger projects. Production
management, feeding and grazing and animals’ role in landscape management are important themes.
Swedish Pork
The purpose of “Swedish Pork” is the development of Swedish pork production by providing the pork
business support to develop increased profitability in the business.
Energy Farm
There is a great potential to produce bioenergy in agriculture and the forestry sector. We can contribute
to society’s energy transition. The Energy farm’s goal is, from a producer and customer perspective, to be a
unifying and driving force for increased energy and better energy efficiency in agriculture. Energy Farm is
the venue where all stakeholders can come together and act collectively.
