CONNECT Centre for Future Networks & Communications - The key challenges that face society all drive the need for new and varied forms of networked services. These include mobile Internet, connected health, smart agriculture, smart grids and metering, and environmental monitoring services. The CONNECT Centre focuses on future broadband, cellular and Internet-of-Things networks on which all of these services will be enabled; thereby growing the economy and supporting society at large.

Trinity College Dublin welcomed the announcement that five new world-class SFI Research Centres are to be established.

Provost of Trinity College Dublin, Dr Patrick Prendergast, welcomed the announcement. He said: “Trinity is committed to research excellence and translating this excellence to achieve economic and societal impact. We are delighted that such a significant amount of funding is being put into this research enabling Trinity College, as well as other collaborating institutions in Ireland, to achieve this. The two Trinity-led SFI centres ‘Adapt’ and ‘CONNECT’ will join AMBER, the SFI-funded materials science centre already headquartered at Trinity.”

Dean of Research at Trinity, Professor Vinny Cahill, added: "Trinity now hosts three national centres in the general area of ICT addressing the fundamental materials science that underpins the electronics industry, future data communications technology that will enable the Internet of Things, and personalised access to the growing volume of digital content that is being created. The establishment of these centres along with recent growth in our Schools of Computer Science and Engineering reinforces the College’s position as a centre of excellence in ICT, providing the talented students and new ideas that will underpin the development of Ireland’s ICT industry."
