Project information
diagnosis in field - big data driven reason clarification of satellite captured differences in field location The main objective of the project 'BigPicture - Diagnosis in the field: Big-Data-based determination of causes for satellite-image-derived and site-specific variations.” which is to be conducted from August 2016 until January 2019, is to use the characteristics or symptoms of plants detected by satellite sensors to derive distinct diagnoses to their causes. The goal is to make appropriate crop treatment decisions based on this information. Substantial progress is expected through the characterization of the identified field patterns by using additional data, such as geometry, location, soil, weather, and field management parameters. This project features the combination of two strands of expertise: SBI GmbH, a specialist in satellite-image-based information products for agricultural purpos-es, and rasdaman GmbH, an expert on Big Data services. Through this collaboration, the project will explore correlations and method development on a large sample of field patterns, thus completing the process chain: from the acquisition of raw satellite image data, through the final assessment of information-based decisions. A pilot customer with market access to farmers will assist in data entry and customer-oriented solution development. The application of the project’s results will be focused on the market for precision farming, as well as on crop yield protection in a resource-efficient, environmentally sound, and sustainable agricultural production. The working plan consists of the following working packages: (1) Consolidation of the information needs of farmers (2) Data and information acquisition from farmers (3) Ensuring data availability (4) Determining the scope and implementation of data analysis (5) Preparing the Big Data procedures (6) Implementation of Big Data analysis (7) Development of agricultural field diagnostic method (8) Conceptual design of the prototype service (9) Consolidation of the commercialization plan (10) Project management.
