Enhanced Variety Selection and Crop Management through Information Technology

Project information
Objectives The principal objective of this project is to design and develop mobile and web-based applications in order to enhance crop variety selection activities (real-time data accessibility, data analytics, and decision making). More specific objectives are to: 1.Identify and examine various crop management and performance data sources and data format. 2.Collect data in a centralized format (i.e. build a data warehouse) to ensure access to historical data for future forecasting and management. 3.Produce a highly flexible system design for the data management to: ◦Enable optimal operation and future expandability and ◦Ensure maintenance and support after deployment (i.e. during production phase). 4.Develop a data management tool for data processing, data modeling, and data visualization on mobile and web environment. Mobile apps will be developed for iOS and Android platforms. 5.Generate charts, tables, and recommendations to help growers evaluate the various combinations of defensive traits, herbicide traits, and maturities. 6.Assess the current sources of new knowledge and practices for variety selection. 7.Perform usability testing and beta testing in order to ensure user friendliness of the mobile and web application. 8.Engage stakeholders at every stage of the design, development, and deployment of these applications.
