ISOTEIA - Integrated System for the promotion of Territorial / Environmental Impact Assessment in the framework of spatial planning

Project information
Description: The aim of the project is environmental protection through the establishment of an Integrated System designed to promote the best means to assessing Territorial and Environmental Impacts (TEIA) within the framework of resource management and regional planning in the CADSES region. During the project running time 8 TEIA case-studies are planned, which are based on alternative scenarios generated by Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS) in national and trans-national study-areas in different environmental fields such as surface water management, ecosystem protection, forest management, integrated irrigation management, water supply optimisation, and precision farming. These will serve as examples and as a feedback for further improving methodology and tools. The main expected result of the project is the promotion of effective and sustainable management of natural resources in CADSES region. Funding: INTERREG Atlantic Area IIIB 2000-2006
Project results:
Achievements: ISOTEIA will and has already achieved the following results: - Establishment of a network comprising research and technological institutions as well as local and regional authorities and organisations, - Integration of methodologies and tools for TEIA using the Spatial Decision Support Systems (SDSS) in national and transnational study areas, - Eight case studies (two transnational) based on the application of SDSS in different environmental fields, - Ten researchers among the project partners trained in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing (GIS-RS) tools and applications, - Training of researchers and professionals on best practices in TEIA using SDSS, - One multi-task digital service offering all the necessary documentation and sources of updated information to planners, stakeholders and professionals for TEIA and SDSS applications as well as a forum for consultancy, - Course curricula related to GIS-RS, SDSS and TEIA.
