FarmEye - Development of a web-based, real-time digital nutrient management system based on agronomy modelling and GIS for land management practitioners

Project information
FarmEye is a web and mobile application to allow farmers and advisors to map a farm, capture/record farm data and activities and visualize using interactive maps and charts. Our focus is on soil sampling, nutrient management, grass management, localized weather (historical and forecasts). FarmEye is available for Android and iPhone and can also be accessed from any web browser. The FarmEye project is a joint collaboration initiative between the Disciplines of Geography and IT at the National University of Ireland Galway. The project involves domain experts from a wide range of areas including geo-spatial statistics, GIS, farm management and ICT. The FarmEye project has a strong commercial focus and it is envisaged that it will result in a start-up company. Dr. Hugh Melvin and Dr. Michael Schukat are working with Dr Chaosheng Zhang of Geography, NUI Galway, on a web-based, real-time digital nutrient management system based on agronomy modelling, precision location and GIS for land management practitioners. Dr. Chaosheng Zhang is head of Ryan Institute GIS Centre and head of Research Cluster of Environmental Change at Discipline of Geography, National University of Ireland, Galway Funding: Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund. The budget for Discipline of Information Technology is €120,000 over 18 months.
