"THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS THE PREPARATION OF A PROPOSAL FOR A EUROPEAN PROJECT OF THE TYPE RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTION, TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE HORIZON 2020 PROGRAMME OF THE EU, SPECIFICALLY TO THE CALL IDENTIFIER H2020-SCS-2014-2, TOPIC SFS-02A-2014.
THE GRANT REQUESTED TO MINECO WILL ALLOW PREPARING A PROPOSAL OF BETTER QUALITY AND WILL INCREASE THE CHANCES THAT IT IS APPROVED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION. IT WILL ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASE THE PARTICIPATION OF SPANISH COMPANIES AND R&D ORGANISATIONS. THE ACTIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PREPARE THIS EUROPEAN PROJECT PROPOSAL WILL LAST ONE YEAR.
CHRONOLOGICALLY , THE PROJECT INCLUDES FROM THE IDENTIFICATION OF AN ADEQUATE CALL FOR PROPOSAL, INCLUDING THE SPECIFIC TOPIC, UNTIL THE THE NEGOTIATION OF THE GRANT AGREEMENT WITH THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION IN CASE THE PROPOSAL IS FINALLY SELECTED FOR FUNDING UNDER H2020 PROGRAM.
NUTRICROP:
THE USE OF HIGH FERTILISER DOSES IN INTENSIVE AGRICULTURE IS CREATING SERIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS IN EUROPE, BEING ONE OF THEM THE LOSS OF SOIL QUALITY FOR AGRICULTURAL USE. THE DECLINE IN SOIL FERTILITY AND THE INCREASE OF SOIL POLLUTION ARE MAJOR THREATS TO THE VIABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION (EC COM 2001/264 AND EC COM (2006) 231). THE FINAL OBJECTIVE OF NUTRICROP IS TO IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT OF EXTERNAL NUTRIENT INPUTS AND WATER, AND OPTIMISE THEIR USE EFFICIENCY AT FARM LEVEL TO IMPROVE BOTH YIELD AND QUALITY OF THE CROPS. THE GOAL IS TO ACHIEVE SAVINGS OF 15-25% IN WATER AND 10-20% IN NUTRIENTS.
TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVE, THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP AND APPLY NOVEL TECHNIQUES ON INTENSIVE FARMING, MAKING INTENSIVE USE OF NEW ICT TOOLS, AND FOCUSING IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AREA AND IN 8 SELECTED CROPS: 2 GREENHOUSE CROPS (TOMATO, PEPPER), 2 FIELD CROPS (LETTUCE, BROCCOLI), 2 FRUIT TREES (ORANGE AND PEACH) AND 2 CEREAL CROPS (WHEAT AND MAIZE).
FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION, THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESULTS WITH CLEAR POTENTIAL REPLICATION ON FIELDS ALL THROUGH EU WITH REAL APPLICATIONS BY END OF THE PROJECT IT WILL BE STRONGLY PURSUED. THE EXPECTED RESULTS INCLUDE:
> THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW FETILISERS BASED IN BIOTIZATION OF SLOW RELEASE PHOSPHATE GRANULES WITH PSEUDOMONAS, MYCORRHIZAL FUNGUI AND/OR TRICHODERMA
> IMPROVEED RESOURCE EFFICIENCY USE THROUGH GRAFTING
> MULTI-FACTORIAL CHARACTERISATION PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS OF NUTRIENTS AND WATER OF THE 8 SELECTED CROPS ACCORDING TO A SET OF FACTORS (NATURE OF THE SOIL, QUALITY OF THE NUTRIENTS, WATER CHARACTERISTICS)
> DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF NEW WATER SENSING METHODOLOGIES INCLUDING SATELLITE IMAGING, A NOVEL MICROWAVES AERIAL SENSORS OF WATER THROUGH DRONES AND ON-FIELD SENSORS (LEAF WETNESS, EVAPOTRANSPIRATION, IRRADIATION, AIR TEMPERATURE, SOIL TEMPERATURE AT -5 CM AND -10 CM, , WIND SPEED, AIR RELATIVE HUMIDITY COMBINED WITH AND WEATHER MEASUREMENTS AND FORECASTS)
> REAL-TIME SENSING OF NUTRIENTS IN SOIL THROUGH DIFFERENT SENSING TECHNOLOGIES INCLUDING: A NOVEL ON-LINE EFFECTIVE NITROGEN AT SOIL SENSOR, CONDUCTIVITY SENSORS, NIR ANALYSIS OF N, P, K AND ODOUR ANALYSIS BY MEANS OF AN ELECTRONIC NOSE
> DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTELLIGENT CROP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BASED IN THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TECHNIQUES BASED ON THE USE OF EXPERT SYSTEMS ALTOGETHER WITH CASE BASED REASONING TECHNIQUES
> DEVELOPMENT OF A FARMING SOCIAL NETWORK TO INVOLVE FARMERS IN THE BEST MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES
