Description:
The Unit of Measurement Technology at UOULU develops on-line sensors for process industry and environmental applications, diagnostic biosensors for point-of-care applications, and collaborates with companies ranging from process and mining industry to food, natural product and diagnostic industry. Over 85 % of MITY’s funding comes externally outside of the university budget funding demonstrating close collaboration with companies and high competitive level of research & development work. MITY is coordinating two EIP-AGRI operational groups: Smartfeed (https://ec.europa.eu/eip/agriculture/en/news/inspirational-ideas-biosens...) and Good for cattle that both collaborate with Estonian Dairy Cluster and EIP-AGRI projects coordinated by it.
In total the unit has been partner in 7 European or Nordic projects during 2010's. The two major ones of those are: 1.) European network for innovative microbioreactor applications in bioprocess developments (Euro-MBR), (FP7, MSC ITN, 2013-17), Partner. 2.) Nutritional research on the non-invasive screening and diagnosis of malnutrition in elderly persons (NURSE), Preparatory action: Healthy diet - early years and ageing population (2014/1/17037714 – SI2.695502, European Commission, Health and Consumers Directorate-General), Main Partner. The Unit has had funding also from Nordic Innovation Center (Micro- and Nanotechnology MNT-ERA NET), Marie Curie Reintegration Grants, and from European Metrology Research, ITEA2 and Eco Innovation Initiative programmes.
