Fruit Research Institute in Eğirdir (MAREM)  was established in 1952 under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Institute is situated in the transitional zone between the Mediterranean and the continental climate. The Institute facilities consist of several buildings, greenhouses, experimental fields, experimental orchard and experimental cold storage. Fruit Research Institute situated on 107 hectare of fertile land near the Eğirdir Lake. It elevation is 900 m. The institute mission is to carry out and conclude high quality researches that can satisfy the demands of Turkish agricultural sector in the area of temperate fruit growing and breeding, medicinal and aromatic plants and agricultural economy and also support the Ministry both in national and international levels in terms of research and policy making through concentrating on some activities like in-service trainings, seminars and courses. The institute vision is to produce data for the needs of the Ministry on an institutional basis, to carry out national and international research studies, and to assist solving the problems which the sector may encounter through increasing quality of institutional R&D capacity.
