Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens

Organisation type:
Research institutions
Country:
Greece
Short name:
BRFAA
Description:

The Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA) is the most recent addition to the Life Sciences Research organizations in Greece, which begun its activities in 2004. The founding principle of BRFAA is to host both basic and clinical research, while recently it has been decided to expand its activities in applied science bringing together advancements in nanotechnology with those in the biomedical field. The main goal of BRFAA is to achieve excellence in the Biomedical Sciences by recruiting high quality investigators carrying out cutting-edge basic and translational research and by training young researchers in state-of-the-art facilities, which provide a particularly stimulating scientific environment and strong research infrastructures. BRFAA research activities are supported by an impressive infrastructure of state-of-the-art core facilities, in addition to basic molecular biology equipment such as advanced imaging (confocal and deconvolution microscopy, micro-PET/CT animal imaging etc) and animal facilties.
The sensor development and advanced surface functionalization lab possesses the following infrastucture:
1. Single channel Potenstiostat for Electrochemical and Impefimetric interogation of sensins systems
2. Multimode microplate reader
3. A Quartz Crystal Microbalance - Dissipation Mode
4. A Circular Dichroism Spectrophotometer
5. A hot filamet furnace for Chemical Vapor Deposition
6. Molecular Biology equipment (PCR, Gel electrophoresis) for the selection of new aptamer sequences
