Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) is the main public research organization in Italy. It consists of near 100 distinct research institutes from human sciences to ICT. To this project proposal, two CNR institutes will contribute: Istituto di Calcolo e Reti ad Alte prestazioni (ICAR) and Istituto di Informatica e Telematica (IIT).
ICAR offers innovative solutions in terms of research, technology transfer and high education. In particular, in the international research landscape, ICAR conducts both theoretical and applied research activities in the areas of high-performance computing (cloud computing, parallel and distributed environments and advanced technologies for the Internet) with emphasis on intelligent systems with complex functionality (cognitive systems and robotics, knowledge representation, extraction and reasoning, human-computer interface, optimization).
To address the relationship between new technology, business models, and data processes and values ICAR develops applications in the areas of e-health, energy, security, bioinformatics, cultural heritage, and smart cities. Research results span from academic publications (around 200 papers per year, including white papers and technical reports) to software demonstrators.
ICAR enrolls 84 permanent researchers and it has successfully coordinated and participated in several high-impact both national and international research projects.
