The “Ion lonescu de la Brad” University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Iaşi
(USAMV Iasi) is a high education institution specialized in agronomy and veterinary medicine
training at national and international level. Its fundamental mission is focused on training
specialists in agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry, agricultural economics, food
industry, consumer and environment protection, as well as in biology and veterinary medicine.
The campus equips a complex infrastructure accessible through inter-department and inter-
division cooperation (Research infrastructure : The Institute of Research for Agriculture and
Environment, The Agricultural Research Center of Iaşi, The Plant and Soil Analysis Laboratory,
The Laboratory for the Expertise, Certification and Control of Genetically Modified Organisms
and of Agricultural Products. Laboratory of Research for the mechanization of agriculture and
food industry, The Horticulture Research Center, The Laboratory of Fruit Growing Research
“Prof. Gică Grădinariu”, The Laboratory of Oenology Research “Academician Valeriu D.
Cotea”. The Oenology Laboratory of USAMV Iasi, led by prof. Cotea, has a state-of-the-art
infrastructure: experimental winery and laboratories for different analytical aims. The research
team of the Oenology chair has been included in over 50 national and international projects won
in competitions over the years. A full-time collaboration with the Oenological Research Center –
Romanian Academy Iasi Branch is in place. Also, the Oenology Laboratory is partner in
different research projects with wineries in northern and southern part of Romania for testing
different viticultural and wine-making techniques and Lanxess firm in Germany for product
testing. 15 ha of vineyards plus the ampelographic collection of 1,7 ha and 0.5 ha of vine
nurseries represent a huge advantage for testing any cultural or technological innovations. The
multidisciplinary team that works in the Oenology Laboratory has produced competitive
international research publishing (over 2000 articles, compendia, manuals, guides and other
publications of which around 500 in SCI papers).
