INCDO-INOE 2000 subsidiary Research Institute for Analytical Instrumentation ICIA

Organisation type:
Research institutions
Country:
Romania
Short name:
ICIA Cluj-Napoca
Description:

National Institute of Research and Development for Optoelectronics, INOE 2000, Subsidiary Research Institute for Analytical Instrumentation, ICIA, Cluj-Napoca, Romania (www.icia.ro) is specialized in research & development in the field of environment, biomass-bioenergy, food quality and contaminants from the food chain, as well as design and development of analytical methods with various applications. Research activity directions of ICIA Subsidiary are oriented toward fundamental, applied research and experimental development having implemented the Quality Management System according to ISO 9001:2018. INCDO- INOE2000, Subsidiary ICIA performs chemical analyses through Environmental Analyses Laboratory, LAM, accredited by the Romanian Accreditation Association, RENAR with the Accreditation Certificate No. 352-LI/22.07.2009, in agreement with the request of the SR EN ISO/CEI 17025 Standard to perform analyses on soil, water, sediment, sludge, vegetation, food. Chemical analyses performed by Subsidiary ICIA: (1) chemical-physical characterization of environmental samples, including plants, (2) determination of the chemical residues from food, (3) determination of the traces of genetically modified organisms presence in food, and (4) determination of the functional character of the food. In the ICIA’s laboratories, chemical analysis are carried out to determine the food chemical contamination with: organochlorine compounds (organochlorine chloride benzene, pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls) (by gas-chromatography with electron capture detector, GC-ECD); heavy metals (by mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, ICP-MS and atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, ICP-AES); polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (by liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector); phthalic esters (by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry GC-MS). One must be mentioned that the presence of genetically modified organisms (by polymerase chain reaction, PCR), nutritional value, the antioxidant capacity, allergens and functional nature of the food are also determined (https://erris.gov.ro/ICIA-Cluj-Napoca). ICIA Subsidiary is deeply concerned, by the performed activity, to sustain and stimulate the technology transfer, in close correlation with its own research strategy.
