Samet Okuyan was born in Golcuk, Kocaeli in 1989. He was graduated from the Department of Zootechnics at Gaziosmanpasa University, Turkey in 2011. He received his MSc degree from the Department of Conservation and Land Management at Bangor University, UK in 2017. He has been studying his PhD at Mustafa Kemal University, Turkey since 2020. He currently works at Apiculture Research Institute of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM), in Ordu, Turkey, mainly focusing on the effects of pesticides on honey bees.
