Expertise: SKEL coordinated the FP6-IST project BOEMIE on knowledge acquisition from multimedia content and the DG SANCO-eHealth project MedIEQ on quality labelling of health related web content. SKEL currently has the technical management of the FP7-ICT project NOMAD on web content analysis for e-Government applications. NCSR coordinates the FP7-ICT project USEFIL on assistive environments with SKEL performing the data fusion and event recognition tasks. SKEL had also the technical management of the SIAP project QUATRO Plus, as well as of the FP7-ICT project SYNC3 which focuses on deriving the thematology from news articles and then applying it to the blogosphere domain. SKEL was also actively involved in the FP6-IST project INDIGO on human-robot interaction, the FP7-ICT project CASAM on computer-aided semantic annotation of multimedia content and the FP7-ICT project PRONTO on event recognition in intelligent resource management. Furthermore, SKEL personnel is associated to the PASCAL Network of Excellence whose purpose is to build a Europe-wide Distributed Institute which will pioneer principled methods of machine learning. Facility: NCSR "DEMOKRITOS" is the largest self-governing research organization, under the supervision of the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Development. NCSR-D will participate with the Software and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory (SKEL, http://www.iit.demokritos.gr/skel/) of its Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications. NCSR-D has coordinated/participated in numerous national and EU projects (FP7-ICT, FP6-IST, SIAP, DG-SANCO, Bilateral) and has very substantial expertise in the areas of knowledge representation and management, machine learning, language technology, personalisation.
