Christina Umstatter has done her PhD at Humboldt University of Berlin on the subject of the interaction between animals and technology in automatic milking systems. She then moved on to work in Weihenstephan at the chair of agricultural engineering, Technical University Munich. She has a specific interest in labour science and Precision Livestock Farming in extensive systems. For 9 years, she worked at SRUC’s Hill & Mountain Research Centre in the West Highlands of Scotland as Grazing Biologist and focused on animal monitoring, electronic identification in livestock farming and on the development of virtual fences. In 2014, she moved to Switzerland to work for Agroscope in the labour science team. Since 2017, she is head of the research group Automation and Labour Organization. Her current research area involves Precision Livestock Farming and automation in farming to reduce the workload on farms.
