It was established in 1980 with the aim to promote application of innovative research in agriculture. At the present, its fields of interests are wider, including in general climate and meteorological analysis and environmental management studies and project. Several agreements are in progress with national and international Institutions devoted to territorial planning, as Italian Regions, Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, World Meteorological Organisation, FAO, Agrhymet.
Ibimet has a data processing centre with commercial sw and (ERDAS, ARC INFO and ARC VIEW) and home made software for remote sensing data processing and Geographical Information Systems developing. The activities of research, technology applications and training are focused on the application of innovative method (remote sensing, environmental modelling, climatic measurements) for data collection, dbase organizations and ecosystems investigations at different time and spatial scales.
Facility: The research fields of the Institute are: Evaluation of global changes impact on agriculture and forests, man and his health, territory and landscape; Development of models for innovation and optimization of agro-forest systems; Climate and weather interaction with product quality and rational use of climatic resources; Weather and seasonal forecasting in agriculture; crop monitoring systems, harvest and product quality forecasting systems. Study of strategies for prevention and fighting of natural ecosystems risks.
