Sander Mücher is senior researcher Remote Sensing & GIS at Alterra, within the team Earth Observation and Environmental Informatics. Active for more than 20 year at Alterra in the field of remote sensing and agriculture, he was already in 1997 co-ordinator of the EU-FP4 project PELCOM which aimed at land use monitoring with low resolution satellite data for environmental applications. He is now involved in many European activities with a strong accent on land use, agriculture and biodiversity monitoring using remote sensing & field data. He has been involved in many European projects such as BIOPRESS, BIOHAB, EBONE and ECOCHANGE. Example of a recently finished EU project is the FP7 project BIO-SOS, which aimed at supporting operational monitoring of protected sites with advanced remote sensing techniques. Next to these international activities (also with respect to the current SIGMA project on global agricultural monitoring in support of GEOGLAM), he is also involved in many national projects in the field of precision agriculture.
