Fruit Crops in the Alpine Region

The Research division of Agroscope Conthey is dealing with Arboriculture, Berries, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAP) and Vegetables. Irrigation management represents a part of the activity in the research group "Fruit crops in the alpine space". Philippe Monney has a bachelor in horticulture from the HES Changins (1981). Since 1989 he has carried out experiments on orchard training systems and contributed to sutudies on the influence of the tree microclimate on fruit quality together with the UMR PIAF of the INRA in Clermont-Ferrand. Since 2008, he has started a new activity with the setting up of an irrigation extension service that parallely works on applied strategies designed to increase water use efficiency for apple and apricot. In this context, plant water satus measurements, different soil measurement as well as technologies aimed to ensure continuous plant stress monitoring are tested.
