Dr. Christopher Brewster is a Senior Scientist at TNO, and previously a Senior Lecturer in Information Technology at Aston Business School, Aston University. He has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield. He has extensive experience of EC funded research, having been PI on the FI PPP Smartagrifood project (www.smartagrifood.eu), the FI PPP FIspace project (www.fispace.eu), the CIPS funded Disaster 2.0 project (www.disaster20.eu) and previously Project Manager on the FP6 Companions Project (www.companions-project.org). His research background has been Natural Language processing and Semantic Technologies, with a focus on knowledge representation for a variety of application areas including the biomedical and life science domains. Recently he has focussed on the agrifood domain with a particular interest in the application of Semantic Technologies to the food supply chain. This has led to a growing focus on Open Data, Big Data and more generally the role ICT can play in the agrifood system, whether at the production stage or in the supply chain. He has published over 50 papers in conferences and journals, and organised many workshops.
