Dr. Dimitrios Argyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering at the University College Dublin in Ireland. He is currently the Director of the UCD MSc Digital Agriculture. He recently led the EU Horizon 2020 SMARTCHAIN project on sustainable agri-food value chains with 43 partners across Europe. He is strongly involved in the Focus Groups of the agricultural European Innovation Partnership (EIP-AGRI), he is a member of the newly established European Mushroom Working Group (EMushWG) and he actively participates as principal investigator in a wide range of EU projects including ERASMUS+ (e.g. Foster xR, WildMAPsFiT); ICT-AGRI-2 ERA-NET (e.g. iFAROS); ICT-AGRI-FOOD (e.g. Spectrofood, Mushnomics); EIT-FOOD with industry and academic partners in Europe. He works in the area of agricultural mechanisation, automation and processing for specialty crops. He has a particular research interest in the application of IoT and sensor technology to enhance the operational efficiency of circular agri-food systems, from on-farm operations right through to food and biomaterial processing. His group focuses on the design, development and testing of sensors and control systems for optimal management of inputs and quality of staple and specialty crops (e.g., mushrooms, herbs among others) .
