Expertise: My main areas of expertise are the assessment of grazing and foraging behaviour using modern technology such as GPS-tracking devices, Precision Livestock Farming in extensive systems, the development of Virtual Fences, assessment of animal welfare in extensive systems using sensor technology and to identifying proxies to estimate methane emission of large herbivores in extensive systems and the interaction between animals and technology.
Facility: Research Farm in the West Highlands of Scotland (2200 ha, ranging from 180 to 1025 m above sea level); 1700 sheep; cattle herd expected for summer 2012. Another research farm with hill pasture and beef herd in the Pentlands (east of Scotland).
