AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY INSTITUTE (polish: PIMOT) was established in 1972 and directly subordinates to the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology in Poland. PIMOT is a research institute conducting scientific research and development in the fields of automotive and fuels. PIMOT is a professional, reliable, and economically efficient research and development unit (having modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment), actively participating in the Polish economy transformation and development process. Institute cooperates in areas of automotive engineering, vehicle development, road safety improvement, alternative vehicle powering methods, as well as fuels, biofuels, and renewable energy sources, including: certification of automotive products and type-approval testing of vehicles, their components, and accessories to EU Directives or Regulations, developing of engineering designs and building of prototypes of vehicles or vehicle components, improving of the level of safety of road traffic participants, including the disabled, research and development works in the field of liquid fuels and other operating fluids, inclusive of works on the related technologies, manufacture, storage, distribution, use, and quality assessment, physicochemical tests of liquid fuels, biocomponents and other operating fluids for compliance with normative acts, operational testing of petroleum products, evaluation of the quality of fuels, biofuels and biorefinery systems in terms of sustainability criteria and greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle assessment (LCA), working on the use of energy obtained from renewable sources, including technologies of the production of biofuels from agricultural feedstock, biomass, and waste substances, research and development related to the electric and hybrid propulsion systems, organising and running of specialist and supplementary training courses, including driving schools and various forms of continuing education, technical consulting services in the field of automotive engineering, vehicle development, road safety improvement, alternative vehicle powering methods, fuels, biofuels, and renewable energy sources. PIMOT is a member of several national and international bodies, e.g. member of: American Chemical Society, American Association of Advancenment of Science, Gesselchaft für Tribologie, American Council of Renewable Energy, Society Chemical Industry, Polish Automotive Group, Polish Bioeconomy Technological Platform, European Technology and Innovation Platform – Bioenergy, Polintegra – Transregional Centre of (BIO) Polymers-Materials-Technologies For Economy, Biobased Industry Consortium, coordinator of “Biorefineries and biofuels” working group.
