Educated at University Ljubljana, SI (1979, dipl. biol.), University Konstanz, DE (1990, Dr. rer.nat. in Limnology) and University of Basel, CH (1993-1999, Postdoc in evolutionary ecology, Marie-Heim-Vögtlin award). Since 1997 at ZHAW, since 2007 full professor. Expertise: Ecological engineering technologies involving water and nutrient recycling, such as aquaponics, aquaculture and macrophyte based wastewater treatment. Interested in the integration of ecotechnologies in the buildings, like building integrated agriculture, and zero emission buildings. A track record of successfully managing national and international projects in aquaculture and aquaponics. MC Member of COST Actions FA1305 “The EU Aquaponics Hub”, and CA17133 “Circular City”. Editorial board of Water and Ecocycles.
