Martin Hempel received the diploma in physics from the Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, in 2009, where the topic of his thesis was quantum cascade lasers. He received his Ph.D. in 2013 for his work at Max Born Institute, Berlin, Germany, focusing on optoelectronic devices and especially on the failure mechanisms of high power diode lasers. As post-doc at Max Born Institute he developed measuring techniques for GaN-based opto-electronics. Between 2015 and 2017 he did research at Paul-Drude-Institute, Berlin, on THz quantum cascade lasers. Currently he has a position as researcher at Fraunhofer IZM and TU Berlin focusing on interconnection technologies.
