Contact by mailUmberto Nanni is full professor in Computer Engineering in “Sapienza” University, since 2005. Since 2014 he is President of the Information Engineering bachelor degree in the Latina location of “Sapienza”. Since 2015 he is Director of the Research Center for Distance Education and Technology Enhanced Learning in “Unitelma Sapienza”. He is member (co-founder) of CTL – Research Centre in Transport and Logistics (http://www.ctl.uniroma1.it/) and member of its directorial board. His research interests and teaching activities include: theoretical topics (algorithms and efficient computing) and applications of those in various areas (e.g., bioengineering, information retrieval, and transportation science), databases and enterprise information systems, technology enhanced learning. Among his recent work there are applications of machine learning to hyperspctral imaging in agriculture (https://doi.org/10.3920/978-90-8686-888-9_45), and to decision making in chemotherapy (https://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0272989X16662654). He has led or participated in various research activities, and got grants from several public and private institutions. In particular, in 2011-2014 he was Principal Investigator of the European project “eLF – eLearning Fitness” (http://www.elearningfitness.eu/ – grant no. 511669-LLP-1-2010-1-IT-KA3-KA3MP), funded by EACEA within the LLP Programme. In 2015-2018 he has led the Sapienza partnership in the European Project PRIDE – Profiling Relations In Drug trafficking in Europe - no. JUST/2014/JDRU/AG/DRUG/7074, DG HOME – Migration and Home Affairs. The ultimate goal of this project was a decision support system on drugs-profiling and on drug-tracking in real time. He is member of various PC in international conferences (PC co-chair of the 15th International Conference on Web-based Learning – ICWL 2016).
