Raul Zurita-Milla
Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC)
University of Twente

Raul Zurita-Milla designs and uses geocomputational methods to solve complex spatio-temporal problems. His research often involves the use of machine learning and data mining methods, the integration of raster, vector, and crowdsourced data, and the use of cloud-based approaches to analyze dynamic processes and systems. From an application perspective, he is interested in seasonal processes: vegetation phenology, agriculture, and public health issues. Raul is a firm believer in open and team science. He collaborates with many colleagues and organizations. For instance, with various citizen science networks across the globe, with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), and, more recently, with the World Health Organization (WHO). Raul’s projects have received funding from Dutch (NWO, NVWA and NLeSC), European (ESA), and international (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) organizations. Raul received in 2003 the degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Córdoba, Spain. That year he obtained an M.Sc. degree in Geo-Information Science (with distinction) from Wageningen University, The Netherlands. Between 2004 and 2008, he worked towards his Ph.D. degree at Wageningen University. Right after obtaining his doctoral degree, he joined the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente, The Netherlands. Raul is also a member of the phenology commission of the Int. Society of Biometeorology and is in the editorial board of the Remote Sensing journal.
