Contact by mailDr Sébastien Ziegler is a serial entrepreneur. He created several companies and non-profit organizations. He is founder and the Director general of Mandat International. He serves as President of the IoT Forum and IoT Lab, as Chair of the EuroPrivacy international board of experts, as Vice Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Subcommittee on the IoT, and as Rapporteur on Emerging Technologies for the IoT and for smart cities at the ITU (SG20). He is following and promoting the use of open and interoperable standards for and among smart cities. Sébastien has a PhD in Management with a specialization in Information Systems at the Faculty of Economy and Management of the University of Geneva. He graduated in International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International Studies, followed by a Master in Environment, a MBA in international administration (HEC Geneva), and complementary executive courses at Harvard Business School in Boston, Stanford University, UC Berkeley and EPFL. He is an expert in data protection accredited for EuroPrivacy, EuroPriSe and ISO 27001 certifications. He speaks fluently English, French and Spanish. Sébastien is co-directing the Master in Advanced Studies on the Internet of Things at the University of Geneva. With a multi-disciplinary academic profile, combining international law, science, and economics, he is a relentless promoter of research, innovation and international cooperation. Sébastien initiated several international research projects in the area of ICT, with a focus on the Internet of Things, smart cities, IPv6, and privacy. He is currently coordinating and associated to several ongoing European research projects, including Synchronicity, the European Large Scale Pilot on Internet of Things for Smart Cities. Synchronicity brings together cities such as Milan, Manchester, Helsinki, Antwerp, Porto, Santander, Eindhoven, Seongnam, Carouge and Leon from Europe, Asia and Latin America. It is directly supported by the Open and Agile Smart Cities Alliance and its 120+ cities. In Synchronicity, he leads the integration of the City of Carouge, as well as the standardization work with ongoing work at the ITU. He also supervises the data protection policy of the participating cities. Sébastien is a founder and Board member of UDG Alliance, which is a member of the FIWARE foundation. UDGA is one of the FIWARE iHub lab providing a pool of expertise on FIWARE and IoT frameworks deployments. Through his research activities, Sébastien has been an early adopter of FIWARE and his research team is used to design and deploy FIWARE architecture and enablers in various contexts. Sébastien serves as President of IoT Lab, which gathers a large network of experts in the Internet of Things domain, as well as a research and test infrastructure for the IoT, including remote access to federated testbeds with over 4’000 IoT motes, and online testing tools for interop and conformance tests. Sébastien is a seasoned entrepreneur and manager, with over 20 years of experience as director with an acute sense of economic efficiency. He is also a promoter of international cooperation. His foundation, Mandat International, aims at promoting international cooperation. It has Special Consultative Status to the UN and is an ITU-T Sector Member. It collaborated with the World Bank and has developed several projects with the UN support as well as several conferences with the international organizations. It coordinated the drafting of the International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development adopted by the ITU, the IoT Forum, the research community and the industry at the IoT Week 2017 in Geneva.
