Transforming food systems by connecting science, policy and society
The European Commission (EC) established a High-Level Expert Group (HLEG) to assess the needs and options for strengthening the sciencepolicy interface (SPI) for improved food systems governance. The HLEG concludes that food system transformation must be better supported through more ambitious interlinked science-policy-society interfaces and recommends the following pathways: i) multilateral institutions must strengthen and adapt existing SPIs with additional resources and a broader mandate to engage across sectors and scales; ii) they should cooperate with member states to fund a series of dedicated taskforces to fill knowledge and data gaps; and iii) they should collectively invest in a global coordination hub to build capacity, convene regional assessments as well as forecast and model trends.
