He obtained his MSc degree in Microwave Engineering and Optical Communications with Golden Badge distinction from the Technical University of Gdańsk, Poland and PhD degree in THz communications technology with summa cum laude from Braunschweig University of Technology, Germany. Dr. Piesiewicz has been focused on SiGe integrated circuits design at SIRC and has been leading there all systems design oriented activities. Dr. Piesiewicz has served as R&D Director at DATAX, a high-tech software SME from Wroclaw, Poland where he built up an R&D department and secured external funding for R&D activities. He was also serving as Director of ICT R&D at the Wroclaw Research Center EIT+, Wrocław, Poland, where he was responsible for the creation and operation of the ICT Department. Prior to this, he was heading the Broadband & Wireless Area at Create-Net, Trento, Italy, where he was leading staff and research activities in cognitive radio and reconfigurable optical networks. Before, he was with the Braunschweig University of Technology, where he acquired his PhD in THz communications techniques and worked in an interdisciplinary THz communications lab. For his PhD thesis he received a prestigious Walter-Kertz Prize in 2008. Before, he had been with Fraunhofer IZM, Germany. Dr. Piesiewicz is an author of 2 book chapters, 11 journal and more than 60 conference publications in THz techniques and communications. He acquired, coordinated, and participated in various positions (researcher, leader, manager) in a number of international collaborative research projects including MEDEA+ MESDIE, MEDEA+ QStream, FP6 Strep Ming-T, FP7 Strep Diconet, C2Power, Fiver, Saphyre, OneFit, Acropolis, FP7 IP EUWB, EUWB – Enlarged Europe.
