Director of Innovation, TSSG - Kevin Doolin Overview Before joining TSSG, Kevin worked as a Senior Product Manager/Software Architect in Ericsson Athlone were he was responsible for systems design and product management for the Ericsson OSS for IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). He also had responsibility for multinational multi-million research and development projects on Ericsson’s core technology systems. Following this, he worked as an IDA Ireland Development Advisor, and had a primary function of engaging with manufacturing companies in Ireland and encouraging/assisting them to embark on R&D projects in order to build sustainability. Resulting from this prior experience combined with his work in TSSG Kevin has experience of the research spectrum from multiple angles (industrial, academic and governmental). Kevin started his career in TSSG as a Competence Centre Manager for the Pervasive Communications Services Competence Centre, primarily focusing on EU funded research programmes and eventually moving onto Enterprise Ireland funded initiatives such as IMSARCS (a €2m Industry Led Research Programme). Following this he became the Chief Engineer and Chair of TSSG’s Scientific and Technology Board. Subsequently Kevin was promoted to Chief Operations Officer and DIrector of EU Programmes. From 2017 onwards Kevin has acted as the Director of Innovation in TSSG, where his primary focus is on the applied and commercial research aspects of the organisation. As Director of Innovation, Kevin’s, and he has personally secured ~€12M in research funding for TSSG (equating to approximately 12% of total research income into TSSG since its foundation). Kevin’s main research interests include context-aware systems and pervasive computing, and Internet of Things (IoT) systems for Smart Agriculture/Cities etc. Experience 2017-Present TSSG, Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland Director of Innovation, TSSG 2015-2017 TSSG, Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland Chief Operations Officer, Director EU Programmes, TSSG 2015-2017 fuseami Ltd. – Spin-out Company Founder and Director 2012-2015 TSSG, Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland Chief Engineer, Scientific and Technical Board Chair, TSSG 2004-2012 TSSG, Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland Manager, Pervasive Communication Services Competence Centre, TSSG 2002-2004 IDA Ireland, Waterford, Ireland Project Executive / Development Advisor 1995-2002 Ericsson Software Campus, Athlone, Ireland Strategic Product Manager (IMS OSS), Senior Software Architect Research Interests Context-aware systems and Pervasive Computing Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure for Smart Agriculture Smart Cities.
